Our Bed Bug Extermination Process

Inspection and Confirmation

We start by confirming it is bed bugs at all. Carpet beetles, bat bugs and spider beetles get mistaken for them regularly, and treating for the wrong insect wastes a visit. We work the mattress and box spring seams, the bed frame joints, the headboard and the wall behind it, then outward to nightstands, skirting, curtain hems and any upholstered furniture in the room. In an apartment we also check the shared wall and the units either side of it where access allows.

Mapping the Extent

Bed bugs spread outward from where people sleep, so the pattern of activity tells us how long it has been running and how far it has gone. That map decides the treatment. Treating one room when three are involved guarantees a callback.

Heat Treatment

Heat raises the whole space above the temperature bed bugs survive, and it reaches every life stage including eggs in one pass. It suits heavy or well-established infestations, and it has the advantage of leaving no residue in a bedroom. It needs preparation — heat-sensitive items out, aerosols and pressurised containers removed — and we walk you through that list before the day.

Targeted Product Application

Where heat is not the right fit we use a programme of residual and non-repellent products applied into harbourage rather than across surfaces, combined with an insect growth regulator that stops immature bugs reaching breeding age. This is slower than heat and needs at least one return visit, but it works and it is often the better fit for a lighter infestation or a partial-occupancy building.

Mattress and Furniture Decisions

We would rather encase a mattress than throw it out. Discarding furniture feels decisive and usually is not — a dragged mattress sheds bugs down the hallway, and a replacement bought before the room is clear gets infested in its turn. If something genuinely has to go, we will say so and tell you how to move it out without seeding the rest of the building.

Follow-Up and Verification

We come back and check rather than assume. Eggs already laid before treatment are the reason: a follow-up inspection timed to when they would have hatched is what separates a finished job from one that quietly restarts.

Bites are suggestive, not diagnostic. Reactions differ wildly: it is common for one person in a bed to wake up covered in welts while whoever they share it with never reacts at all. Treat bites as a prompt to go looking, never as proof.

Dark Spotting on Bedding

Check second-hand furniture in daylight before it comes through the door, and treat a returning suitcase as suspect: unpack it in the garage or the laundry rather than on the bed, and put the contents straight into a hot dryer cycle, which kills every stage. None of this is dramatic, and it is most of what keeps a treated house clear.
